What are Varifocal Lenses ?

Varifocal lenses allow you to view all distances more clearly.  The varifocals have 3 different areas on the lens used for close, intermediate and distance.  The varifocal lens provides a gradual change of focal power from the top of the lens to the bottom of the lens.

The upper part of the lens is used for distance viewing such as driving.  The lower part of the lens is for near viewing such as reading.  In between these two areas is the intermediate section of the lens also known as the “corridor” which is for mid range viewing.

In the middle of the corridor and the outer edge area of the lens is where you will see peripheral distortion, which is normal due to how the lens is manufactured.
